The U.S. Postal Service is experiencing huge deficits and declining revenue from their mail services.
They are predicting that they will deliver less mail in 2020 than in 2010. Since benefits, wages, and fuel costs continue to rise while revenues are shrinking, they will put forward a proposal to only deliver mail between Monday and Friday.
It does not help that many Americans are communicating and paying their bills online today.
The postal service already has a commission that is concluding hearings on a Postal Service proposal submitted in July to close and consolidate more than 100 post offices throughout the United States.
The U.S. Congress will have to approve the latest proposal because federal law requires 6 days of mail delivery.
